Below are a few tings to try if you are having trouble starting/launching your game.
Run as Administrator
This usually the fastest way to bypass most security blocks.
- Find the games installation file using the following file path:
- C: > Program Files (x86) > NAME OF GAME
- Double-click the folder to open it.
- Right-click the game icon on your desktop and select 'Run as Administrator'.
Compatibility Mode
Some older games have trouble running on modern versions of Windows. In these cases, you often need to use Compatibility Mode. This tells Windows to mimic an older operating system (like Windows 7 or XP), allowing the game to run in an environment it recognizes.
Step 1: Open the Compatibility Settings
Locate the game folder and double-click to open it.
Click HERE for instructions on how to find the game folder.
-
Right-click on the games .exe file and left click on 'show more options'.
Click HERE if you can't see the .exe file extension.
Click on 'Properties'.
From the properties menu, click the Compatibility tab.
Step 2: Choose the Operating System
Under the 'Compatibility mod' section, check the box that says Run this program in compatibility mode for:.
Click the dropdown menu directly below that checkbox.
Select Windows XP (Service Pack 3) for games released before 2010, or Windows 7 for games released after 2010.
Step 3: Save and Test
Click the Apply button at the bottom of the window.
Click OK.
Try launching your game again.
Check your Antivirus (The 'False Positive')
Even though our games are 100% safe, some antivirus programs block them because they don't recognize the game's 'signature'. Unfortunately, your antivirus program doesn't always inform you that it's blocked your game from launching.
- Quick Test: Try temporarily disabling your antivirus program for a few minutes while you try and launch your game. If it launches, then you'll know for sure the antivirus was the problem.
-
The Fix: Open your antivirus program and look for 'Exclusions' or 'Whitelist', then add the following folders:
- C: > Program Files (x86) > bfgclient
- C: > Program Files (x86) > NAME OF GAME*
- *Each game will have it's own folder, so you may have to exclude/whitelist several of these.
If you're not sure how to whitelist or add exclusions, please click HERE for more antivirus information.
Adjust the User Account Control (UAC)
Windows uses UAC to prevent apps from making changes without your permission. Sometimes it blocks a game from accessing its own save files. Click HERE for more information regarding UAC.
- Click the Search icon (magnifying glass) on your taskbar.
- Type "UAC" and select Change User Account Control settings.
- Move the slider all the way down to "Never Notify."
- Click OK and restart your computer to let the change take effect.
